Connie, London

We cannot thank Yukie enough for the incredible experience she curated for us in Kyoto. We stayed there for 2 months as our mini gap experience during my maternity leave, with our 6-month and 3-year old boys.

From the moment we met her, she was warm, welcoming, and full of local insights especially for mums that enabled us to enjoy the city in a way we never could have managed on our own.

Yukie’s deep knowledge of Kyoto’s culture, history, and hidden gems made every moment feel special. She tailored the trip perfectly to our interests— baby music classes, aikodo lessons, mum&baby yoga, so on and so on. With her help, we even celebrated shichigo-san on Noah's 3-year birthday in the iconic shimogamo shrine!

What stood out most was her genuine kindness and attention to detail. Whether it was helping us navigating in the local hospital (yes, on our first day, we had to take our little one to the hospital for some checks...but Yukie made it possible!), recommending the best hairdresser or making last-minute adjustments to our itinerary, Yukie was always one step ahead and incredibly gracious.

Thanks to her, our time in Kyoto was a deeply personal and enriching journey.

Yukie is a true gem, and we wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone visiting Kyoto. She turned our trip into something truly unforgettable!

Steps for support

Planning stage - before arriving in Japan

As the first step, please provide the age of your kids, the duration of your stay in Kyoto, along with the location of your accommodation. We’d love to learn more about your family, including the interests and personalities of your kids. Sharing your family's dream for this trip will help us create a memorable experience for you!
Online consultation is available so you can be reassured of the arrangement even before landing in Japan.

Orientation day - after arriving in Kyoto

We will arrange a half-day orientation within a couple of days after you arrive in Kyoto. On this day, we will share information about parenting  tips in Kyoto, such as recommended playgrounds and shopping spots, and it will also be an opportunity to go over the various plans and classes you’ve organized with Porch Kyoto.

During the orientation day, we’ll share a weekly calendar that outlines what’s happening throughout the week. This includes parenting support classes for infants and toddlers in the community, weekly classes such as music class, yoga class, and martial arts classes, and information about weekend events happening in Kyoto.

Also, learn how to manage daily tasks like taking out the garbage and shopping at local supermarkets, and get advice on handling situations when your little ones are unwell.

While you all are in Kyoto

Once you’ve settled in a bit and become more familiar with Kyoto, you can try attending trial lessons for weekly classes and activities with your child to see whether the teachers and the class style are a good fit for your family. Porch Kyoto will accompany you and provide detailed support, including communication with the teacher and understanding how the class works.

In addition to weekly classes, there are also one-time workshops and seasonal activities based on Japanese traditions and events, which we’ll introduce along the way.

Support also includes help with finding hospitals and interpreter services in case of illness, so even families with small children—especially babies—can feel at ease.
